Hi,
having read a little about Benjamin Spock on Wikipedia, it seems as though his ideas and teachings are told to parents in the UK today by health visitors and nurses, to an extent anyway.
Children are individuals who are growing up in a society where feelings and emotions are very relevant. I see no point in emotionally distancing myself from my son. The world he is growing up in is a harsh one, but it is also full of love, happiness and joy. Surely the best route would be to teach him how to find these things whilst trying to avoid the negative emotions such as anger, hatred and fear.
Yes I think Spock's ideas are still very relevant in todays world.
