I would describe myself as a mild sadist.

It appears to me that one of the things I enjoy is seeing others suffer, only mild suffering.

Can I achieve happiness by pursuing this path whilst maintaining a strong ehtical stance, ensuring that others are not harmed?

Not as contradictory as it seems.

I can indulge my sadism by playing video games, watching films, and reading books. The suffering is either pretended or completely fictitious.

Can 'negative' emotions, properly controlled and carefully indulged be a route to hapiness?

I suppose we are all different but I get pleasure from seeing other be happy, I cant even watch those "Youve been framed" TV shows (where people film their accidents, etc.) without feeling their pain and embarrassment.

But I suppose if you feel happier watching others misfortune, as long as you dont actively go about causing it, then Enjoy

But chances are that you may get obsessed and go over the limits someday. Thus end up, degrading your humanity and chances of spiritual advancement. Why can't you find another way to get happy?
